UPDATE August 1st: Just a reminder everyone that only a month remains for auditions. Please use your time wisely and note the group if you have any questions or concerns!

If you require additional time to finish, a week extension will be given out on a case by case basis. To request for one, all you must do is send a note to the group. We require you to include WIPs of your audition or alternatively lay out a time frame of when you’re intending to be finished by. There is no penalty if you’re not able to put everything up by the intended date, but we’d like to know you have some schedule or plan going forward.

Please keep in mind that in order to be eligible for an extension you must first:

-Have your reference either submitted for screening or already accepted into the group.

OR

-Provide us with a WIP of the reference as evidence you’re working on it. Please include it in your note requesting for an extension.

When two weeks remain before the deadline, we will be polling competitors on the server to measure the need for a mass extension. If the need is great enough, then a two week mass extension will be granted.

A reminder that character references need to be screened to make sure it meets our requirements before it can be accepted.

Character screening and auditioning reminders-

  1. Please do not send your reference in multiple times. This clogs up our message queue and creates more admin work for the staff.

  2. If you are in a duo or have two characters you are entering, you need to submit both characters in order to be screened. Please:

-Clarify if the character is a spectator or fighter

-State who your duo partner is

To send in your reference for screening: Please submit their reference to the gallery folder "Character references". Once we have seen it, we will let you know and update you when you are being screened.

Read below on how to send in your audition. All your pages need to be linked together in order for your entry to count.

The pool party event is still open if you wish to participate.

------------------------------------

Auditions are now OPEN! The deadline for submission is Sept 1st, at 12pm EST!

To track the time left, here is a countdown for your convenience.

Please read through our audition requirements below and character design journal before you start.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

As this is an expedition to the island, your character will need to board Derek's boat! But first, they need to be invited. The following are the audition requirements for Crystal Island:

  1. The character(s) must obtain/receive an inert piece of heart’s desire crystal by some means, whether it is seeking Derek out and persuading him to allow them to join his expedition or via other means (some examples are but not limited to: thievery, black market, employer’s blessing, etc.). There is only one piece per character/duo.

  2. They must then meet Derek or one of the staff at the boat, with crystal in-hand and board the boat.

Key points:

Inert means that this piece of heart's desire is too small to grant any wishes. It serves only as an invitation for those that wish to board Derek's boat.

Your character does not necessarily have to speak to Derek, but must consult with ONE of the staff members for your entry to count.

Finally, your character boarding the boat must be explicitly shown or implied. This means there either needs to be a shot/scene of them stepping on the boat or a shot/scene implying they have decided to board the boat.

Tips:

  • Think of the audition as the pilot of a TV show. Sell us the idea of your story! What is your character like and why are they doing this?

  • Remember that we are judging predominantly on your story and character. Prioritize those over the quality of your art.

  • Consider the type of character you are enrolling. A fantasy knight seeking the crystal out for his kingdom makes more sense than an alien that just happens to be passing by and joins out of curiosity.

  • Longer is not always better and short is not always sweet. Focus on being concise with what you want to tell and evaluate if you can use less words or panels to say what you want to say.

  • Finally, just have fun with it! The requirements need to be met, but they’re not very strict outside of needing to be met. Have fun with the story and let your passion to tell it come through; why commit to a story you don’t like?

How to submit your audition:

Please ensure all pages of your audition are linked together or we will not count your entry. If you are unsure how to link your pages together, we have prepared a guide for your reference.

In addition, please make sure to label the final page of your audition in some way. Whether that is in the title, in the artist description, or at the bottom of the page with "End" or "End of audition".

Once you are finished and all your pages are linked together, submit the first page of your audition either:

-Via a note to the group

OR

-Via submitting the first page to the "auditions" gallery folder.

If you wish to join our discord server, please send the group a note.

I was looking through my stash and rediscovered this WIP journal from 2 years ago that I thought I'd share since a bunch of awesome people tagged me. Apologies that it took so long to post. Thank you again!

Have my salmon-giraffe alien from Xotiathon OCT, who I need to pick up drawing again for reasons.

Gallus Reference

  1. To compete in the race that decided who would compete in Xotiathon for Yve, Gal's sponsor was required to donate a hefty sum. Because only female sraigsars are socially accepted and allowed to adorn, only females can compete.

  2. This is a follow-up to previous fact. Not sure if this has been explicitly stated before in my rounds but there are three front-winners for the race. And they all are required by law-binding contracts to have children around a certain date before Xotiathon so that they can adorn them. The reason being by the time Xotiathon is over, the babies should start showing sign of their to-be adult colors. If for whatever reason, Gal hadn't been able to have her children at the right time, the second-place winner would instead end up competing in her stead. If both, then the third place winner.

  3. Previous to Al Na'ir, Gal had briefly courted a male who didn't like to be seen with her in public so she ended that relationship early on.

  4. Campion was named for her pink color after the flower, though in-universe that is not the reason.

  5. The name Gallus was given to her as a slight by her mother, as it is considered a traditionally masculine name. (also latin for rooster, which was her default name - enjoy the old, messy conceptual sketch I did before her design was finalized.) Hence why she strongly prefers to be called Gal.

  6. The original color scheme I had in mind for Gal was closer to an actual rooster (like this).

  7. Gal is an omnivore, though her main diet consists of a type of fish found in Yve, insects, and lots of fruit.

  8. There is a lot of societal pressure to have children, as a sraigsar's worth is heavily intertwined with the good health of their offspring and the size and influence of their family. Each family has a head matriarch. Technically Gal's was her great grandmother, but as she's been disowned, she no longer has any claim of one. Instead, she is her own head matriarch now with her children.

Hello all! Since it's starting to warm up finally I'm going to open up sidewalk chalk slots again.

Here's an overview:

And here's have some more recent examples:

Eieal by Evelyn-Cross Whim by Evelyn-Cross Sludge by Evelyn-Cross
Hawkeye by Evelyn-Cross

General Rules:
No overly complicated designs.
Characters can be animals, robots, humanoid, exc.

For Interactive Headshots:
Any requested interaction MUST be safe for work.

If you'd like to grab a slot either message me or leave a comment below with the details and a link to the character(s) you'd like me to draw.

(It's 100 points for a Headshot, 200 points for Interactive Headshots, and Full Body depends on complexity. Interactive Headshots are basically 100 per character. I'll allow a maximum of 3 characters.)

Slots -
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

For now I'll keep it to five slots. I'll maybe open up these again in the summer if I get enough interest to warrant it.

Hello. I don't think I've ever actually offered art slots before, so this is as good a time to start. These are entirely free, though donating points in exchange would also be appreciated. All you need to do is post a link to a reference of your character (OR you can link a few and leave it up to me to decide on one. Your call.), and I'll draw a headshot of them with sidewalk chalk.

Something like these:

Rain by Evelyn-Cross  Amethyst (2015) by Evelyn-Cross   jkjr wip - Copy by Evelyn-Cross

There's no rules for these, except no complicated designs. The character can be human, canine, robot, exc. And, also, something to note: unless you're cool with me taking huge creative liberties with your characters...make sure to post ones with a brighter color scheme.

First come, first served. I'm only taking 5 for now, but I might offer more at a later date. Depends on how many takers I get.

1. :iconreverendaspen:
2. :iconlsyn:
3. :icontzaryn:
4. :iconnothofagus-obliqua:
5. :iconfizzpopped:
